Self-Defence / Bullying:
We teach all our students to use common sense before self defence. We don’t favour aggressive behaviour, instead we teach the children to make safe, intelligent decisions regarding self-defence. We train the children in how to use their voice first and foremost, to speak up and communicate with an adult about any bullying or unsafe situations that may be experiencing. We run regular anti-bullying and safety awareness workshops and encourage the children to come to us with any difficulties they may be facing. We are here to support every child to ensure they can feel safe and secure in any situation. We promote a supportive and positive environment here at the gym where we work as a team to reach our goals. Our personal development lessons focus on improving self-esteem and confidence in all our students so that they can feel self-assured at home, in school and in their social activities.

ResPect for Authority:
One of our most important principles at Na Fianna Martial Arts is respect. We teach all our students how to show respect to their instructors, school teachers and most importantly, to their parents. Through our personal development lessons in self-discipline, kindness, self-control and respect your child will develop the skills necessary to communicate assertively with others. If you struggle to discipline your child or if they regularly display an anger response, martial arts will not only help them to develop better focus but will teach them about accountability, responsibility and consequences for their actions. We focus primarily on positive reinforcement, praising their good work, empowering them to make better choices rather than focusing on negative behaviour.

Character Development

Discipline
Discipline is one of the common things our parents come to us looking for help with. Does your child struggle with school? Do they fail to complete their homework and study for tests? Do they help you around the house? Do they show signs of ADHD? The physical movements in martial arts help to reinforce the qualities of focus, concentration and self-control which contribute massively to a student’s discipline both at home and in school. We encourage our students to practise age appropriate acts of self-discipline from their very first lesson with us. As they learn to take on more responsibility for themselves and reach their goals we notice a significant impact on their self-esteem and ability to become accountable for their choices.

Exercise & Fitness
Whether your child has an excess of energy to burn or needs some fun motivation to get moving martial arts is the perfect all round activity. For the kids it’s an extremely fun and exciting workout that never gets boring. Not only do they make loads of new friends but we incorporate fun themes into our workouts to ensure they’re challenged and engaged throughout. In terms of fitness, martial arts is a high energy aerobic workout that makes use of gross motor skills and helps to fine tune balance, agility, coordination and flexibility. They will learn how to perfect their technique and are tested on a different physical element every month. Martial arts will increase their overall fitness levels and improve their speed, power, accuracy and intensity.
